Google AI Overview Checker: See if AI Overviews cite your site

We run your buyers' questions as live Google searches and capture the AI Overview, if one appears. You see whether it names you, whether it links to your site, and which sources it used instead.

Includes a dedicated Google AI Overviews check

The category a buyer would ask AI about, not your tagline.

We ask each engine 3 buyer questions and 1 question about your brand. Your scan stays private. See how it works.

How it decides

How Google decides what goes in an AI Overview

AI Overviews are part of Google Search, so they inherit a lot from it. Four things are worth knowing before you read your results.
  1. Not every search gets one

Google shows an AI Overview only for some searches. When there isn't one, we mark the result “no AI answer” and leave it out of your score.

  2. It's built from Google's index

The summary and its links come from pages Google has crawled and indexed for the search and related searches. If Google can't index a page, it can't be cited.

  3. Cited isn't the same as ranked

The links in an AI Overview aren't always the top organic results, and ranking doesn't guarantee a citation. Pages that answer the question clearly and specifically have an edge.

  4. It names brands as well as linking to them

For “best tool” searches, Overviews often name products in the text. You can be named without a link, or linked without being named, so we track both.

What we check

What we check for Google AI Overviews

For each of your three buyer questions, we load the live results page and record four things.

Mentioned

Whether the AI Overview text names your brand or domain.

Rank in the list

Your position when the Overview lists products, and how many it listed.

Cited as a source

Whether a link to your domain appears among the Overview's references. Google's own links are ignored.

Who's named instead

The brands the Overview names, plus the domains it cites, ready for outreach.

Method

How we query Google AI Overviews

A live Google search results page for the prompt, including the AI Overview block and its cited sources (DataForSEO SERP API). Many searches show no AI Overview; those are marked “no AI answer” and excluded from the score.

We search the exact buyer question, not a short keyword. Short keyword searches can show a different Overview, or none at all.

Plus: “no AI answer” detection

If a search shows no AI Overview, we say so instead of scoring you zero. That's a finding too: for that question, the classic results still decide.

Inside the report

What the AI Overview row looks like

Every scan gives Google AI Overviews a row like this: your three buyer questions, whether you were named, where you ranked, whether your site was cited, and who was named instead.

Levers

What tends to move AI Overviews

AI Overviews reward the same things good search results do, with a stronger pull toward clear, quotable answers.
  1. Rank for the question and the topics around it

AI Overviews draw on search results, so classic SEO for your category, comparisons and use cases is the foundation.

  2. Answer in the first lines

A clear, specific answer near the top of a page is easier to cite than one buried under a long intro.

  3. Get listed where Google already looks

The domains in your report's citation list are the roundups and review sites Google leans on for this topic.

  4. Check your snippet controls

nosnippet and max-snippet settings limit how much of a page Google may show, including in its AI features. Make sure key pages aren't restricted by accident.

Google AI Overviews visibility questions

How we check Google AI Overviews, what the results mean, and what you can do about them.

Google only shows an AI Overview for some searches. When the results page for a prompt has none, we mark that cell “no AI answer” and leave it out of your score, so it doesn't count against you. It's still useful to know: those are searches where the classic results do the work.

Full questions. We search Google for the same three buyer questions you see in your report, exactly as written, so the result is comparable with the other five engines. Short keyword searches can show different AI Overviews. If you need keyword-level tracking, the tracker or a done-for-you audit is the better fit.

No ranking guarantees a citation, and the cited links aren't always the top organic results. AI Overviews draw on pages Google has indexed for the search and related searches. Ranking well for the question and the topics around it is still the most reliable foundation.

Mentioned means your brand name appears in the AI Overview text. Cited means a link to your domain appears among the Overview's sources. You can have either without the other, so your report tracks both.

You pick the country when you start the scan (US, UK, Canada, Australia or India). The search runs from that location in English. AI Overviews differ between countries, so pick the market where your buyers are.
