Perplexity Visibility Checker: See if Perplexity cites and recommends you

Perplexity shows its sources for every answer. We ask it your buyers' questions and show whether it names you, whether it cites your site, and exactly which pages it trusted instead.

Includes a dedicated Perplexity check

The category a buyer would ask AI about, not your tagline.

  • 6 AI engines

We ask each engine 3 buyer questions and 1 question about your brand. Your scan stays private. See how it works.

How it decides

How Perplexity decides what to recommend

Perplexity is built as an answer engine: it searches first, then writes. That makes its choices easier to trace than most.
  1. It searches before it answers

Perplexity's Sonar models run a web search by default, then summarize what they found. What ranks and reads well right now matters more than what a model memorized.

  2. It shows its work

Claims link to numbered sources. When a competitor is recommended, you can usually see which page put them there.

  3. It quotes direct, current answers

Pages that answer the question plainly, like a comparison, a pricing page or a “best tools for X” roundup, are easier to quote than a homepage full of slogans. In fast-moving categories, recent pages often win.

  4. Its brand answer shows how findable you are

Ask Perplexity what your company does and it searches for you. If it can't find trustworthy pages about you, it tends to say so, which is worth knowing.

What we check

What we check for Perplexity

For each of your three buyer questions, we read Perplexity's answer and its sources, and record four things.

Mentioned

Whether Perplexity names your brand or domain anywhere in its answer.

Rank in the list

Your position among the options it recommends, and how many it gave.

Cited as a source

Whether one of Perplexity's sources is your own domain. You can be named but not cited, or cited but not named.

Who's named instead

Every other brand it recommends, plus every domain it cited, counted across the scan.

Method

How we query Perplexity

Perplexity's Sonar model, which searches the web by default (DataForSEO LLM Responses).

We query Sonar through Perplexity's API with the search country set to the one you pick. The Perplexity app can use other models for some subscribers.

Plus: the brand question

We also ask Perplexity “What is brand?”. Your full report shows whether it recognized you and exactly how it described you.

Inside the report

What Perplexity's row looks like

Every scan gives Perplexity a row like this: your three buyer questions, whether you were named, where you ranked, whether your site was cited, and who was named instead.

Asked “What is Ledgerly?”

Not recognized

“I couldn't find much reliable information about Ledgerly (ledgerly.example). It may be a smaller or newer company, so details about its features and pricing are hard to verify.”

Perplexity's results in our sample report for Ledgerly, a fictional expense tool. It was the only engine that cited Ledgerly's own site.

Levers

What tends to move Perplexity

Because Perplexity shows its sources, the to-do list writes itself. Start with the pages it already trusts.
  1. Get onto the pages it already cites

Your report lists every domain Perplexity cited for your category. Those reviews, roundups and directories are the first places to pitch.

  2. Publish pages that answer buyer questions

Comparison pages, “alternatives to” pages, pricing explainers and use-case pages are the formats an answer engine can quote.

  3. Stay crawlable and current

Allow PerplexityBot in robots.txt, don't hide key content behind logins or heavy scripts, and update pages when your product changes.

  4. Fix the brand answer

If Perplexity can't say what you do, start with a clear About page and consistent profiles on the sites it trusts.

Perplexity visibility questions

How we check Perplexity, what the results mean, and what you can do about them.

Perplexity searches the web for almost every question and shows its sources as numbered citations next to the answer. So the most useful question isn't only “did it name us?”, it's “which pages did it trust?”. Those pages are where you need to be mentioned, and your full report lists them.

Sonar, Perplexity's own search model, through the official API. Sonar searches the web by default, and we set the search country to the one you picked. Perplexity's app may use other models for some subscribers, so treat our answer as the standard Perplexity experience, not every possible one.

This shows up in the brand question (“What is {brand}?”). It usually means Perplexity's search didn't find pages it trusts that explain who you are. It's one of the most fixable findings: a clear About page, consistent descriptions across your profiles, and listings on the directories Perplexity already cites for your category.

Have a page that answers the buyer's question directly, such as a comparison, a pricing explainer or a use-case page, and keep it current. Make sure PerplexityBot can crawl it. Then work on being mentioned on the third-party pages Perplexity already cites for your category.

Perplexity cites whichever pages best answer the question, and competitors often publish “X vs Y” and “alternatives to X” pages that do exactly that. If a competitor's page is cited for your category, it's a sign you need your own version.
